A superb all round performance by Shakib Al Hasan under his new captain, Mashrafe Mortaza, finished the drought of Bangladesh in the One Day Internationals for more than a year. The Bengal Tigers defeated Zimbabwe by a good margin of 87 runs in the opening game of the five match series in Chittagong. The hosts were complimented by a brave ton from Shakib Al Hasan, they hammered 281 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs and the innings of tourists was squeezed at 194 runs with 47 deliveries still available. The home side will enter the second ODI with confidence whereas the tourists will try to hit back and make the series interesting.

Players to watch

Shakib Al Hasan exhibited an all-round performance which included a commendable innings of 101 off just 99 balls followed by 4 wickets for 41 runs. He added 148 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim for the fifth wicket as the latter contributed 65. Mominul Haque scored 31 while rest of their top order batsmen must play positive cricket in the coming matches. Mashrafe Mortaza, Arafat Sunny and Mahmudullah got two wickets each while Al-Amin Hossain can pick up his rhythm.

The skipper of Zimbabwe, Elton Chigumbura, was off colour both with bat and ball and he is required to lead from the front. Brendan Taylor and Hamilton Masakadza were the only notable batsmen as they scored 54 and 42 runs while rest of their batsmen were unable to reach the 20 runs mark. Hamilton Masakadza, Sikandar Raza, Vusi Sibanda and Regis Chakabva should concentrate on their batting. Tinashe Panyangara was their top bowler with three wickets whereas Tendai Chatara, John Nymbu and Tafadzwa Kamungozi should add more spices to their bowling.
