The Lankan Lions got a stick at their back when the Englishmen grabbed the fifth One Day International by a clear margin of five wickets. The match was rolled into the reserve day because of the disturbance from weather and the fresh look tourists availed the opportunity well led by an unbeaten ton from Joe Root. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 239 runs in 49 overs on December 10, 2014 and England achieved the target by powering 5-240 in 49.1 overs. The Islanders are ruling the seven match series at 3-2 and both sides still have a chance to win it.

  1. As mentioned above, Islanders have got stik at their back as England granbbed last ODI with a respectable margin. Various positive and confident comments were delivered by englishmen prior this match and they have delivered best of their performance in last contest. But we should not forget that Sri lanka, team of some fine alrounders will definitely hit back and win this series as they are hosts and it was never easy to beat them in series at their home.

Continuous cricket might have made them a bit restless and down with energy but upcoming interesting contest at Pallekele will be a good cricketing match and host have best chances of winning it. Apart from this, let's wait for Munnabhai to add their valuable analysis before passing any judgement.

    All the best guys.

  2. Agree with Rocky, Lankan Lions are looking bit tired and it seems they have played too much Cricket recently. They got worked up in India and have to go through one more excruciating long series at home amidst Monsoon. English might have expected to have sunny holiday but they got a taste of rainy home in Ceylon. The inventor of this game are under constant pressure from media and pundits back home which keeps them motivated to do better. Cook is on tight noose and if he doesn't deliver his ODI career might go down hill. As I said in my series prediction, England are not a bad team and they have got good players who can turn match in their favour.

Coming to the prediction of this match, it all comes down to team batting first. High score batting first will ensure victory. If it's going to be below par score then team chasing will have better chances. Sri Lanka batting first have to score at least 285 to be comfortable defending. England will have to put at least 300 on the scoreboard if they can restrict SL in chase.

SL's record at Pallekele has been poor and if they don't wake up they will meet the same fete as they did in previous match here.

It's still monsoon, rain and thunderstorm are predicted so it's very likely that D/L will screw this match.

My trading strategy will be to go with Sri Lanka and make money on BetfairBetfair when they are batting.
