An unbeaten ton by the tail ender Jason Holder assisted West Indies to draw the opening Test against England who performed better in the game. The visitors hammered 399 before they were bowled out in their first innings and declared their second one at 7-333. The first innings of the Windies was squeezed for 295 but they managed to reach 350 for the loss of seven wickets after chasing a target of 438 at the end of the fifth and final day of the match. Both teams will head towards the second Test and the team plays better will take lead in the three Test series.
Jermaine Blackwood dispatched 112 followed by 46, 39 and 33 by Shiv Chanderpaul, Kraigg Brathwaite and Marlon Samuels. Jason Holder powered a match saving innings of an unbeaten 103 while Devon Smith, Denesh Ramdin and Darren Bravo got 65, 57 and 32. The batsmen have to be more positive in the coming game to grasp a favourable result. Kemar Roach, Jerome Taylor took five wickets each as Jason Holder, Sulieman Benn and rest of their bowlers should be more accurate.
Ian Bell blasted his 22nd Test century in the first innings while Joe Root and Ben Stokes contributed 83 and 79 runs in the first innings. Gary Ballance blasted 122 and Root along with Jos Buttler registered their fifties in the second whereas Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott remained unsuccessful in both innings. James Anderson became the highest Test wicket taker of England with 384 off 100 matches and surpassed the previous record of 383 off 102 games. James Tredwell, Stuart Broad, Chris Jordan and Joe Root were the other wicket takers as Ben Stokes should follow his seniors.
