When it comes to staying safe in a division, guile and experience can go a long way to making up for a lack of skills. Both of these teams find themselves in the relegation places, though Crewe will be hoping that their young team have the exuberance of youth and a lack of fear when facing down against Shrewsbury’s older, more streetwise players. As such, this match could be a great platform for either team to make a bid for safety. With similar formations and both teams needing to attack to secure the win, this could well come down to a battle between youth and experience in the constant climb for safety within the division.

Shrewsbury have been struggling to find any kind of form in the last few months. Having sunk into the relegation places, the team have found it hard to break free from the threat of dropping down a league, though they have recently recorded two wins from their last five. Having failed to capitalise on either of these victories, however, the team have remained in the threatened positions, though the poor form of the teams around them could be the key to escaping from the division.

Crewe have faced similar results, with their form being little better than their closest rivals. Having faced the champions Wolves in their last game, however, Crewe will hope that performances against comparable teams are enough to lift them out of the relegation places. With such a young team – Arsenal youngster Chuks Aneke leads their scoring on loan – Crewe Alexandra might be lacking the experience which is key to surviving a relegation battle.

Team News

Shrewsbury will still be without the services of Joseph Mills, serving a three match suspension for a straight red card. However, they will welcome back Asa Hall from a one game ban. Chris Weale is likely to retain his place in goal, having recently won his place. There are still doubts over the return of Grandison and Mcalllister, though Luke Summerfield could well be in line for a start after recovering from a thigh injury.

Crewe captain is likely to miss the match after suffering a knee injury in training. Max Clayton has returned to training in recent weeks, though a starting place might not be feasible at this stage of his recovery. Both Ryan Colclough and Harry Davies are expected to miss out with hernia and knee problems respectively.
