Liverpool are in red hot form right now, and seem to be unstoppable in their march towards their first English Premier League title. They are top of the league, 2 points ahead of Chelsea and 4 points ahead of Manchester City, though City still have 2 games in hand. With Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in bright form, Liverpool haven’t had any problem scoring goals, especially at Anfield. However, it’s their defence that has been suspect at times. So far, the Merseyside team have been able to negate any defensive problems by scoring more goals than the opposition, but they need to tighten up at the back to avoid unnecessarily dropping any points.

Liverpool vs Manchester City
It's up for grabs now!

After getting knocked out the UEFA Champions League by Barcelona, City have only the Premier League to concentrate on, and are themselves in a good position to finish as champions. With 2 games in hand, they have their destiny in their own hands, as winning both would take them 2 points above Liverpool. With only the League Cup to show for what has been universally acknowledged as City’s best seasons, not winning the league would certainly be seen as a failure by Manuel Pellegrini and the powers that be.

Liverpool and Manchester City are the top 2 favourites to win the league this season, and both teams have been banging in the goals all year. But where City have been better is that they have let in far lesser goals than Liverpool, and that could prove to be the difference. It is not too bad a bet to say that the title may well end up being decided by goal difference, especially if Liverpool manage to beat City this weekend. Then City’s 2 games in hand will become all the more crucial. It may sound clichéd, but this certainly is a top of the table 6 pointer. To quote one of the most epic lines in football commentary, it’s up for grabs now!

Injuries

Liverpool have no new injuries apart from the long term absence of Jose Enrique, with Daniel Agger set to return for the City game. For City, Nastasic is still out, with Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero expected to be able to participate this weekend.

Head to Head

Liverpool and Manchester City have played each other a total of 162 times, with Liverpool, predictably, winning dominating the matches between the two. Liverpool have on a total of 80 games, while City have only been able to win 41. But the City side of now is no comparison to the past and history and stats will count for nothing in this game.

Prediction – Liverpool 3-4 Manchester City

With both teams keen on attacking football, this will certainly be a high scoring game. But Liverpool’s known defensive problems may come to haunt them, considering David Silva is in bright form while Aguero could well make an appearance for the game. However, if either or both of Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero are not fit for the game, then Liverpool will certainly have the upper hand.
