Next Sunday, 5th of October 2014, José Mourinho’s new Chelsea will measure forces with their neighbours and rivals of Arsenal at Stamford Bridge for the round seven of the English Premier League, on a match during which the two only teams that remain undefeated at the league so far will go head-to-head.

Chelsea continued their good moment during their visit to Lisbon last Tuesday, where they defeated Sporting CP by 1-0 thanks to one goal from Matic. The powerful Serbian midfielder scored on the match that marked his return to Portugal to face his former team’s rivals and granted the three points to the Blues. José Mourinho’s men were far more dangerous than their opponents throughout the entire match and it came as no surprise when Matic opened the score on the 34th minute. The Blues had plenty other chances to score, but Sporting’s goalkeeper, the Portuguese international Rui Patricio, managed to frustrate Chelsea’s attempts on several occasions, thus preventing them from scoring a second goal during the match.

Mourinho has been accomplishing a fantastic job at the helm of the Blues this season and he is somehow sweeping the criticism that was directed to him last term under the rug. Chelsea are currently at the top of the table with five wins and one draw on six matches and, at the same time, they are the team with more goals scored in the competition so far.

After their draw at Etihad Stadium against Manchester City, Chelsea returned to wins against Aston Villa, inflicting the second defeat of the season to the Villans and keeping their place at the top of table well guarded.

As for Arsenal, the team seem to have kept the bad luck at bay on the day Arsene Wenger completed his 18th anniversary at the helm of the team as they totally annihilated Galatasaray by 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium on round two of the UEFA Champions League group stage. The Gunners managed to bounce back from their opening day defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund and put up a vintage performance, for which Danny Welbeck contributed with a remarkable hat-trick.

Arsenal’s career at the English Premier League is, although, not as impressive as their last Wednesday’s night performance. The Gunners have only won two of their six matches so far and conceded four draws in the meantime. Although they remain undefeated at the Premier League, Arsenal suffered a huge blow last week when they were eliminated from the Capital One Cup at home by a mighty Southampton.

When both teams met at Stamford Bridge last season, the match ended with a memorable and staggering 6-0 win for Chelsea. Although it is not likely that the same thing will happen again next Sunday, the Blues are favourites to win the match.
