Next Saturday, 1st of November 2014, the current league leaders, Chelsea, will entertain QPR at Stamford Bridge for round ten of the English Premier League, on a match of major importance for both teams, albeit for very distinct reasons.
After nine EPL matches José Mourinho’s “new” Chelsea continue unbeaten at the top of the table, four points ahead of a surprising Southampton side that keeps impressing this season. The Blues took the league by storm and no one seems to be able to stop them, not even the two giants from the city of Manchester. Last Sunday, Chelsea snatched a draw on their predictably difficult travel to Old Trafford and, despite being a positive result, the London team cannot help but feel a bit frustrated, since United only grabbed their equalizer on injury time. At the end of the match, the Portuguese boss showed some frustration regarding the referee’s work, as he suggested that he had some influence on the match outcome: "The red card, I saw that coming. (...) If I have to speak about [that] I have to speak about the penalty Ivanovic should have been given. (...) I don't want to speak even about throw-ins. If I want to speak I will speak too much - you know I will speak with my heart and get into trouble."
Although Chelsea did not manage to grant the three points from the Old Trafford’s match, José Mourinho’s boys looked once again fairly consistent and ambitious, even without one of their most important players, the Brazilian born Spanish international Diego Costa.
Chelsea’s next match against QPR will be of major importance for them, especially if we keep in mind that the Hoops clinched a surprising 1-0 win the last time they visited Stamford Bridge.
As for QPR, their return to the English football top tier has been particularly difficult so far, as the team has only managed to grab two wins from the nine matches they took part in. Their second win of the season happened last Monday, when they entertained Aston Villa at Loftus Road. The Hoops’ boss, Harry Redknapp, may very Well be thankful to his versatile Charlie Austin, since it was the former Burnley forward who scored his team’s goals that annihilated the Villans last Monday.
Chelsea are firm favourites for next Saturday’s match but it might be a good for them to have in mind what QPR accomplished the last time they visited Stamford Bridge.
