After an impressive first season at the helm of the Toffees, Roberto Martinez has already sealed two quality deals to strengthen his side’s midfield line, first granting Gareth Barry on a permanent deal and yesterday by finally agreeing terms with Ferencvaros for the signing of Muhamed Besic.

According to the media, the Toffees will pay approximately £4 million for the Bosnian defensive midfielder, who had only joined the former Hungarian giants Ferencvaros last season after spending all his youth footballer career in Germany.

Besic was born in Berlin back in 1992 and before joining Hamburger SV he spent a great deal of his youth career at the historical German team of Tennis Berlin. In 2009, he joined the six-time German champions Hamburger SV, but he failed to make stand at the team and ended up by playing more regularly for their reserves team. Besic’s behaviour inside the club was allegedly not the most appropriate one and he experienced some problems with Hamburger’s former manager Torsten Fink. Late in 2012, the young Bosnian footballer signed a deal with Ferencvaros and that move proved to be vital for the improvement of his career. Besic played regularly while at the former Hungarian champions and his contribution proved to be very important for the team’s return to the UEFA Europa League qualification round, after they ended the league on the 3rd place.

Besic was one of the most pleasant surprises of the Bosnian team’s modest stint at the World Cup. The team’s manager, Safet Susic, entrusted Besic with the task of playing as a defensive midfielder behind the creative elements of the Bosnian midfield line, Miralem Pjanic and Zvjezdan Misimovic. Besic managed to put up some quality performances during the three matches he took part in, something that didn’t go unnoticed for a great deal of European teams as the interest in the Bosnian defensive midfielder was thought to be high.

Besic is very versatile footballer and he can assume several different roles, both at the defence and at the midfield line. He usually acts as a defensive midfield, but his excellent marking skills allow him to play both as a centre back and as a wide back on the right side of the defence.

To sum things up, Everton signed a very promising footballer, who will certainly bring some extra power, consistency and quality to the team’s midfield line this season.
