Next Sunday, Germany will measure forces with Cameroon at Borussia Park in Moenchengladbach on a match that will help both sides’ preparation for the Brazil’s World Cup that is just around the corner.

Will the Germans be able to tame the African Lions next Sunday?
Will the Germans be able to tame the African Lions next Sunday?

The African team went into action last Thursday against Paraguay on a friendly match that took place at Kufstein in Austria and that the South American side won by 2-1, thanks to goals from Santa Cruz and Romero. This was the second time Cameroon played in the last five days, since they defeated a frail Macedonia side by 2-0 just four days ago also at Kufstein with an impressive acrobatic goal by the Fenerbahce striker Patrice Webó.

Cameroon are meticulously preparing the World Cup tournament, during which they will face the hosts Brazil and also Croatia and Mexico. The African Indomitable Lions are far from living up to their nickname and the team’s recent performances, both during the World Cup qualification and on friendly matches, have left something to be desired, especially on the match against Portugal, when they were severely hammered 5-1 almost two months ago. Their manager, the 66 year old German Volker Finke, who only arrived at the team last year, still has plenty of work ahead of him in order to fully prepare the team for such a demanding competition as the World Cup.

For the match against the Germans, Volker Finke is not yet certain if he will be able to count on Patrice Webó, who injured his shoulder after his overhead kick goal against Macedonia.

As for Germany, the clash against Cameroon will be their fifth friendly match to prepare their World Cup campaign. Two weeks ago, Germany entertained their neighbours Poland at the Imtech Arena at Hamburg but they failed to offer a victory to the almost 38000 supporters that attended the match by conceding a goalless draw at the end of the ninety minutes.

Joachim Löw’s side are, nevertheless, on a fantastic row: nine undefeated matches and the last time they lost a match was almost over a year ago against Jürgen Klinsmann’s US team at Washington.

The German head coach will certainly have all his players at his disposal for the clash against Cameroon, particularly because Julian Draxler and Howedes managed to escape save and sound from a car accident while shooting a Mercedes event in Italy during the week.

Cameroon have never defeated the Germans in their history and the last time both teams went head-to-head back in 2004, Germany comfortably won 3-0.
