Next Sunday, AC Milan will take on their neighbours and rivals of Inter Milan at the mythical San Siro for round 35 of the Italian Serie A on a match of paramount importance for both sides’ quest for a place at UEFA Europa League next season.
AC Milan’s recent good form ended abruptly on their visit to Stadio Olimpico last Friday. The Milanese team were never good enough for a well organized and extremely motivated Roma that grabbed a 2-0 win and continue their impressive campaign this season.
AC Milan’s hopes for a place at the UEFA Europa League next season were severely dented after last Friday’s defeat, as they now have a six point gap to Inter Milan, who occupies the fifth place of the table.
For the next match against Inter Milan, Clarence Seedorf will have to rally the troops and find a way to motivate them for what will probably be one of the most important matches of the season for them. AC Milan offered very little resistance to Roma’s advances on last Friday’s match and a similar performance might cost them yet another sour defeat for the Milanese derby.
For next Sunday’s derby, the Dutch head coach will probably not be able to count on the Slovenian midfielder Valter Birsa and on Bryan Cristante, who are still recovering from their respective injuries.
As for Inter Milan, they’ve managed to extend their undefeated row to six matches thanks to last Saturday’s home draw against Napoli, on what was a very close match at San Siro. Walter Mazzarri’s boys put up a good performance but they failed to convert their goal chances and the match ended as a goalless draw.
A win against the Rossoneri next weekend would definitely plunge AC Milan’s hopes of getting something positive out of such a devastating season by creating a nine point gap between both sides on the Serie A league table.
For next Sunday’s clash against their all-time rivals, Walter Mazzarri is not yet certain if he will be able to count on Jonathan and Juan Jesus, since both Brazilian defenders are currently struggling with injuries.
When both sides measured forces back in December, Inter Milan grabbed a vital 1-0 win thanks to a late goal from the versatile Argentinean forward Rodrigo Palacio. The clashes between both sides are always exciting and next one will certainly be no different; nevertheless, Inter Milan might enjoy a slight advantage because of their recent defence line’s consistency and since it is not yet known what effect last Friday’s defeat against Roma will have on AC Milan.
