Next Saturday, Roma will travel to the beautiful city of Florence to measure forces with Fiorentina at Artemio Franchi for round 34 of the Italian Serie A on what will certainly be the most important match of the weekend.

Will Vincenzo Montella's Fiorentina be able to stop an extra-motivated Roma side?

Last weekend, Roma completely smashed Atalanta at Stadio Olimpico by 3-1 with goals from Taddei, Ljajic and Gervinho as they easily controlled the entire match. Rudi Garcia’s side put up another top notch performance and cemented their position right behind the league leaders - Juventus - and kept their closest rivals at bay.

With just two defeats so far this season, Rudi Garcia’s Roma are probably the most consistent and interesting side that the Lupi supporters have witness recently. They have the best defence line of this season’s competition (with just 19 goals conceded so far) and the second best attacking line, right behind Juventus.

For next Saturday’s match, the French manager will not be able to count on the team’s top scorer Mattia Destro, who is suspended, on the Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman and on the defenders Federico Balzaretti and Mehdi Benatia, who are sidelined due to injury.

Fiorentina are also enjoying a good campaign at Serie A this season. Vincenzo Montella’s side are on the fourth place of the table, nine points behind Napoli and with five points ahead of Inter Milan. Last weekend, the Viola defeated Hellas Verona 5-3 on a spectacular match at Estadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi with two goals from former Liverpool player and Italian international Alberto Aquilani.

Fiorentina are on a three match undefeated row after being surprised at home by a renewed AC Milan side that won the match 2-0.

For the clash against Roma next Saturday, the former Italian international goal scorer and current Fiorentina’s head coach, Vincenzo Montella, will have plenty of problems on his attacking sector, since he will not be able to count on Giuseppe Rossi, Mario Gómez and Ante Rebic, all sidelined due to injury.

When both sides met at Stadio Olimpico back in December, Roma won 2-1 with goals from Maicon and Mattia Destro on a very close match that could have gone either way. Next Saturday, it will certainly be another close match between two of the best sides of Serie A this season; nevertheless, the team from the Italian capital city might have a slight advantage because of the fantastic moment they are going through.
