Next Saturday, 18th of April 2015, the current Italian champions, Juventus, will measure forces with Stefano Pioli’s super Lazio at Juventus Stadium for round 31 of Serie A.
The upcoming match will be the most important of the round as it will put the league leaders and the current runners-up head-to-head and, at the same, the two teams that are most certainly the best teams of Italian football this season.
The Vecchia Signora suffered a major setback last weekend as they were surprisingly defeated at Ennio Tardini by a mighty and unfortunate Parma, who offered Juve and all the other teams’ players a lesson of humbleness and devotion to a club that is almost condemned to relegation and that has been drowning in a financial turmoil.
Juventus, nevertheless, lift their heads and returned to wins on Tuesday, as they overcame AS Monaco for the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals stage. Despite their victory, Juve’s overall performance was far from impressive and it is probably fair to say that the French team deserved something more than being defeated by a controversial penalty kick.
Massimiliano Allegri, who arrived this Summer to the helm of the Italian champions, has been, so far, leading the team with mastery, although there are some who think that he is not as good as their former boss, Antonio Conte, who is currently commanding the Italian National Team.
The upcoming match against Lazio will certainly be a very difficult one for Juventus, regardless of the fact that, on the previous two times these teams measured forces at Juventus Stadium, the match end up with some solid wins for the home side, 4-1 and 4-0, respectively.
As for Lazio, they are probably the most pleasant surprise of the season so far and their recent winning streak is definitely impressive. The team from the Italian capital city won nine of the last ten official matches they took part in and it is fair to say that they have everything needed to cause Juventus a major upset next weekend.
Their new manager, Stefano Pioli, who only assumed the helm of the team last Summer, is doing a splendid job and deserves all the credit that has been recently given to his work. Lazio’s game is quite impressive and the eventual return of the team to the UEFA Champions League next season will surely be a deserved prize for a group of players that keeps leaving everyone stunned one weekend after another.
Regardless of Lazio’s excellent form, Juventus are favourites for the upcoming match, but they will surely need to dig very deep if they want to overcome the powerful Biancocelesti team.
