Next Sunday, Real Madrid will travel to Galicia to measure forces with Celta de Vigo at Los Balaídos for round 37 of Liga BBVA on a match of the utmost importance for Los Blancos, especially after their recent stumble against Valencia.
It was a week of mixed feelings for Real Madrid. After the team’s splendid win at Allianz Arena against the all-powerful Bayern Munich, Los Blancos failed to grab anything better than a draw for their La Liga’s recent match against Valencia. Los Che put up a quality performance and relied on the excellence of their goalkeeper (Diego Alves) and on the skills of former Real Madrid’s midfielder Dani Parejo to force Los Blancos to a 2-2 draw, which left the capital city team five points behind Atlético but with one game in hand. At the end of the match, Carlo Ancelotti claimed that his team paid the tab from their impressive performance in the Champions League semi-finals in the middle of last week and that still they found enough imagination to surpass a well-organized Valencia.
For the match at Los Balaidos, a clash that will certainly be far from easy, the Italian manager will not be able to count on Jesé Rodríguez and on Arbeloa, who are still dealing with their long term injuries.
As for Celta, next Sunday’s match could mean their fourth consecutive win if they manage to defeat Real Madrid. Luis Enrique’s side are enjoying a fantastic moment at La Liga, probably being at their best this season, and they will certainly face the match against the almighty Real Madrid with a share deal of optimism.
Last weekend, Celta travelled to Pamplona to face Osasuna and they left El Sadar with a categoric victory. Celta controlled the entire match, especially during the first half, and celebrated their third consecutive win thanks to two goals from the devilish Spanish winger Nolito, who is going through a fantastic moment.
For the match against Los Blancos, the crafty Luis Enrique, who will probably leave Los Celestes at the end of the season to take the helm of Barcelona, will not be able to count on Hugo Mallo, who will miss the rest of the season because of injury, and on the Brazilian forward Welliton, who is on loan from Spartak Moscow, also reportedly due to injury.
When both sides met at Santiago Bernabéu last January, Real Madrid easily won 3-0 with two goals from Ronaldo and one from Benzema. Next Sunday’s match, although, might not be as easy for Los Blancos, since Celta are now a more mature team and judging from the team’s recent performances they might, in fact, cause another upset to Real Madrid.
