Next Sunday, Getafe will make a short trip to Vallecas to measure forces with their neighbours and local rivals of Rayo Vallecano for the last round of Liga BBVA on a match where the visitors only need to grab one point to grant their presence at the Spanish football top tier next season.
Last weekend, Getafe obtained a vital win at the expenses of a Sevilla side that had their minds set at the UEFA Europa League final, and almost secured a place at La Liga next season. Los Azulones won 1-0 thanks to Escudero’s fantastic scorcher from outside the box on the 70th minute. At the end of Sevilla’s match, Getafe's skipper, Cosmin Contra, highlighted the effort and the work of his players while he also mentioned the improvements made by the team over the recent matches.
During this week, Getafe asked their fans to support the team at Vallecas next Sunday, as they believe that with the “help” of their supporters, they will be able to make something positive from their short trip to Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas on the outskirts of Madrid.
For the match against Rayo, Cosmin Contra will still not be able to count on the Spanish forward Adrián Colunga, who got himself injured against Barcelona two weeks ago, and on Miguel Angel Moya, who is also injured.
As for Rayo Vallecano, the last two La Liga matches were something that they surely want to forget quickly. Rayo suffered two consecutive defeats and conceded seven goals, four of which against at El Madrigal last weekend against Villarreal. At the end of the match, Rayo’s manager, Paco Jémez, was unhappy with they way his team was beaten but he highlighted the need to overcome and to put those two consecutive defeats behind their backs, while he also applauded his players’ efforts throughout the entire season.
For the Madrid derby against Getafe, Paco Jémez will not be able to count on the Spanish defender Arbilla, who was sent off against Villarreal last weekend, and he is not yet certain if he will be able to rely on the contribution of Jonathan Viera, who is not yet recovered from his recent injury.
When both sides met at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez back in January, Rayo grabbed a narrow 1-0 win thanks to a first half goal from Alberto Bueno. Next Sunday’s match will certainly pose a good opportunity for Getafe to avenge last January’s defeat and secure a place at La Liga next season, although, by playing home, Rayo are considered firm favourites for the Madrid derby.
