Next Sunday, Real Bétis and Sevilla will measure forces at Benito Villamarín on the most important Andalusian derby for round 33 of Liga BBVA.
The home side are having a season to forget. Three different managers throughout didn’t offer the team the confidence and stability they needed to have a quiet season and to replicate last term’s excellent performances and results. Last week, Real Bétis was defeated at Camp Nou, but the Béticos putted up a quality performance and battled bravely until the 86th minute when Messi netted in Barcelona’s third goal.
The current Real Bétis are the worst ever at La Liga. The Béticos have never suffered 20 defeats on the same season at the Spanish top flight and their stats could even get worst if one consider there are still six matches to go until the end of the current campaign.
For next Sunday’s match, Real Bétis head coach, Gabriel Calderón, will not be able to count on Lolo Reyes, due to suspension, and on Salva Sevilla, Perez Nacho, Chuli, Xavi Torres, and Didac Vila, all of them sidelined due to injuries.
The Béticos’ opponents, on the other hand, are enjoying a good moment at La Liga despite their defeat at Los Balaídos two weeks ago. Unai Emery’s side have managed to bounce back as Sevilla trashed Espanyol 4-1 at Sanchez Pizjuán last weekend. The Spanish manager was voted as the best head coach of La Liga last month especially because he managed to drive his team to five consecutive wins in six matches.
For the his side’s clash at Benito Villamarín next Sunday, Unai Emery will still not be able to count on Sebastian Cristóforo and on the Russian wonderkid Denis Cheryshev, who will certainly miss the rest of the season due to injury.
When both teams met last November at Sanchez Pizjuán for Liga BBVA, the home side totally dominated the match and hammered the visitors 4-0. The two major sides of Seville have also measured forces at the UEFA Europa League Round 16 and it was Sevilla who followed through to the next round of the competition after winning 4-3 on penalties.
