Next Sunday, the extra motivated Sevilla will go head-to-head with the no-lesser motivated Granada at Sánchez Pizjuán for round 34 of Liga BBVA on what will the second consecutive Andalusian derby for the home side in the last seven days.
After last week’s win at Benito Villamarín against their neighbours and eternal rivals of Real Bétis, Sevilla will now measure forces with a Granada side that slammed Barcelona last weekend and that will certainly want to take some dividends from that win next Sunday at Sánchez Pizjuán.
Unai Emery’s boys granted a place in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals last week after their home goal galore against FC Porto and are now extra motivated for the remaining matches of La Liga. Sevilla are only one match away of granting a place at the UEFA international competitions next season and they will certainly try to take advantage from next weekend’s home match to do that.
For next Sunday’s match, Unai Emery will still not able to count on the talented Russian footballer Denis Cheryshev and on the Uruguayan midfielder Sebastián Cristóforo, both sidelined because of long term injuries.
Granada will also face next match at Seville with renewed optimism after last weekend’s historic win against Barcelona at Los Cármenes. The Andalusians put up a quality performance against the Blaugranas and they have also benefited from Tata Martino’s side intranquility after their elimination from the UEFA Champions League last week.
Granada are not yet safe from relegation and with just five matches remaining until the end of the season, they simply cannot make any more mistakes in order to avoid any last minute upsets.
For next Sunday’s match, Granada’s manager Lucas Alcaraz is not yet certain if he will be able to count on the Spanish forward Riki and on the Colombian defender Jeison Murillo, since both of them are still recovering from their respective injuries.
When both teams last met at Estadio Los Cármenes last December, the visitors won 2-1 with goals from Carlos Bacca and Kevin Gameiro on what was a very close match that could have gone either way. Next Sunday’s clash will certainly not be much different with both sides fiercely battling for their respective aspirations when we are on the final countdown for the end of this season’s campaign.
