Antoine Griezmann arrives at the current La Liga champions after a successful five year stint at Real Sociedad, where especially during the last couple of years, he emerged as one of the team’s most important footballers. Atlético Madrid have reportedly paid the Donostia team somewhat around £24 million in order to grant the Frenchman services and he is already being pointed out as the club’s most important signing so far this season.

There were allegedly plenty of teams interested in Griezmann, nevertheless, the versatile winger opted for Atlético as he consider them a great club, fairly ambitious and with an impressive project for the future, which is already being forged.

Griezmann arrived at Real Sociedad in 2009 and although he was still very young back then, he still managed to cause some impact. The Frenchman refined the skills that allow him to play in several different positions on the pitch, nevertheless, it is when he acts as a winger or as an attacking midfielder that one can see the best of him. The Mâcon born footballer has impressive crossing and acceleration skills that, when combined with his refined technique, transform him into one of the best wingers of European football currently. In the last two seasons, Griezmann netted in 31 goals for Real Sociedad and, alongside with Mexican forward Carlos Vela, he instantly became one of the team’s most important players, helping the team to grant a place at the UEFA Champions League last season and to secure a place at the UEFA Europa League qualifying round this term.

Griezmann was part of the French National Team that played in the Brazilian World Cup this Summer and he did a good job, "playing" Ribery‘s role and supporting the team’s lonely forward, Karim Benzema, especially during the first match against Honduras.

To sum things up, it is fair to say that, although Atlético Madrid have lost some important players so far this Summer, the arrivals of footballers with an immense talent  such as Griezmann will certainly allow Diego Simeone’s team to continue with their recent excellent displays and achievements in the near future.
