Next Sunday, 15th of March 2015, a deeply fragilized Real Madrid will entertain a Levante in need for points at the emblematic Santiago Bernabéu for round 27 of the Spanish Liga BBVA, on a match Los Blancos need to win in order to put an abrupt end to their recent miserable row of results.
After a somehow unimpressive performance at San Mamés last weekend, Real Madrid put up another miserable display on their UEFA Champions League clash against Schalke 04 yesterday. Los Blancos lost 4-3 against a team that have been living some complicated times since the beginning of the new year and once again made a fool of themselves. Schalke opened the score on the 20th minute when Fuchs counted on the collaboration of Iker Casillas to give the German side a deserved lead. Nevertheless, the Miners’ joy did not last long, since the usual suspect, Cristiano Ronaldo, leveled up the score with a powerful header just five minutes later. Schalke didn’t lower their arms and Huntelaar put them in the lead once again five minutes before the break, a joy that was one more time shredded by the inevitable Ronaldo, who placed an excellent cross from Fábio Coentrão inside Wellenreuther’s net.
Something is “rotten” at Real’s kingdom and that was blatantly obvious during the second-half. The team’s childish defensive mistakes cost them two other goals that could have been more if it wasn’t for a nice save from Iker Casillas on the dying moments of the match, denying an almost certain goal to Schalke’s youngster Leroy Sane.
At the end of the match, Carlo Ancelotti was clearly distressed by his team’s performance and expressed his disappointment by claiming that his side won’t achieve big things if they continue to playing like this. Carletto needs to quickly figure out how to stop the team’s recent defensive leakage and, at the same time, he also needs to rally his unrested troops for what is yet to come.
As for Levante, the Granotes have been experiencing some complicated times so far this season and they are currently fourth from bottom, just one point above the pits of the relegation zone.
The arrival of Lucas Alcaraz at the helm of the team brought some peace of mind to the heart of the Comunidad Valenciana team but they have still a long way to go before they can say that are safe from relegation. Last weekend, Levante overcame the always complicated Eibar by 2-1 with two goals in just three minutes.
Despite Real Madrid’s recent misery, they are still to be considered favourites for next Sunday’s match.
