Next Sunday, 28th of September 2014, a remastered Valencia will travel to the Basque Country to measure forces with Real Sociedad at Anoeta for round six of the Spanish Liga BBVA on a match where Los Che will certainly want to extend the fantastic moment they currently experiencing.

Will Valencia turn out to be a title contender this season?

Nuno Espirito Santo is currently the man of the moment at Valencia as he picked up a completely torn apart team and place them at the top of La Liga, side by side with Barcelona, after only five matches. The Portuguese manager’s arrival at Mestalla caught everyone by surprise, not only because of Juan Antonio Pizzi’s abrupt departure, but also due to the alleged lack of experience of the former Portuguese international goalkeeper. Some claimed that the super agent Jorge Mendes imposed Nuno to Valencia’s board, though, and no matter what the truth is, the Portuguese manager is doing a fantastic job at the helm of Valencia’s vessel, which had been adrift for too long.

Last Thursday, Los Che entertained Córdoba at Mestalla and they clinched another impressive 3-0 win pushing their opponents against the ropes from the early stages of the match. It was a magical night at the beautiful Mestalla stadium and Valencia brought back some memories to their supporters’ minds, exhibiting the kind of football they had displayed in the team’s good old days some time ago. Paco Álcacer, Gayá and Feghouli netted in Los Che goals and Diego Alves kept his third clean sheet of the season.

Valencia’s next match at Anoeta will certainly be far from easy and, although the home side is still far from what they displayed for example two years ago, Nuno Espirito Santo knows for sure what kind of difficulties await him at the Basque Country.

As for Real Sociedad, the team from San Sebastian has been going through a very complicated period at La Liga as they suffered two consecutive defeats in the last two rounds and have only won once this season so far, surprisingly against the all-powerful Real Madrid.

Over the week, Real Sociedad sucumbed at the hands of Sevilla at Sanchez Pizjuan, as they failed once again to put up a decent performance like they did, for example, against Los Blancos almost one month ago.

When both sides met at Anoeta last season, the home side won by a narrow 1-0, thanks to a goal by their sharpshooter striker Agirretxe. Things have changed a lot in just one year’s time and this new Valencia team looks more than capable of granting a positive result from their travel to San Sebastian over the weekend, as they have to be considered firm favourites to win the match.
