Uruguay have probably not yet fully digested their surprising defeat against Costa Rica for their first World Cup’s match. Óscar Tábarez’s team put up a disappointing performance and although they got an early lead thanks to Cavani’s goal from the penalty spot, they were completely trashed by an intense and hard working Costa Rica during the second-half of the match. To make things even worse for Uruguay, their usual right back Maxi Pereira was sent off late in the match because of violent conduct against Joel Campbell. And whereas Benfica’s right back will surely miss the match, there are still several doubts concerning Luis Suárez’ physical condition and whether or not he will be able to give his contribution to the team on the match against England.

The absence of Luis Suárez on the match against Costa Rica was a major blow for the team’s strategy. Uruguay had to do without their most important player and his presence and leadership was missed by his teammates inside the pitch.

After their shocking first match’s defeat, Uruguay need to win the clash against England if they still want to nurture the dream of moving forward in the competition.

Will England be able to bounce back after last weekend's defeat?

As for England, the match against the South American team will certainly be equally complicated, especially after being defeated by Italy on their first match. Despite losing the match, the English team put up a very interesting performance on the game against the Azzurri. England had more attempts on goal, were far more dangerous on their attacking movements and had more shots on target than their opponents, but they failed to materialize their chances and that cost them a very painful defeat.

Roy Hodgson kept faithful to his ideas and displayed the team into a 4-2-3-1 with a highly versatile trio lurking behind the team’s centre forward. England reacted promptly to Marchisio’s goal on the 35’ minute and got the equalizer just two minutes after, thanks to a bold movement by Sturridge.

For the match against Uruguay, it is not likely that Roy Hodgson will implement plenty of changes into the team, although the inclusion of a more creative player such as Ross Barkley or Jack Wilshere on the starting line-up might offer the team a clear improvement for their attacking movements.

Despite their defeat on their opening match, England should be considered favourites for the match against Uruguay, since the South American team appear to be miles away from their good old days.
