Eugenie Bouchard uses her impressive height to dominate with her serve and impressive two-handed backhand. The Canadian superstar’s meteoric rise to the upper echelon of the WTA just might signal a shift in the dominance by Eastern European women that has marked the Women’s tour for the last five years (minus Serena Williams).

By all accounts Bouchard and Romani’s Simona Halep look to be the new and freshest faces on the block. Canadians and tennis fans alike are drooling at the possibilities.

Presently ranked 7^th, the 20-year old only joined the tour in earnest in 2011. Training under the watchful and hopeful eye of Florida’s Nick Saviano, Bouchard’s tennis prowess is not as surprising as her confidence and composure. Like all newcomers, she struggled until her breakout year in 2013.

Inn 2014, Eugenie has amassed an impressive 36-14 won-lost record. The right-hander is fluid on the baseline and can unleash her two-handed backhand from anywhere on the court. Most opponents try to play her forehand side.

Although falling to two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the finals at Wimbledon, Bouchard probably has the toughest draw in the field. She marched through the likes of  Daniela Hantuchova (R128), Andrea Petkovic (R32), Alize Cornet (R16), Angelique Kerber (Quarters) and Simona Halep (Semis) to reach the finals. This is the type performance Bouchard is capable of repeating at the US Open.

Remember it was not until September 16, 2013 that Eugenie broke through into the WTA’s top 50. Now that the dam is broken, watch out now!
