Wimbledon 2014 winners

The third Grand Slam tournament of the season is over and we have seen lots of surprises, lots of unexpected things, new rising stars and future hopes of this sport, fantastic play, beautiful strokes and rallies. This year's winners are Novak Djokovic (SRB) who won the second Wimbledon title in his career and Petra Kvitova (CZE) who also has won Wimbledon 2 times in her career.

Men's single – Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic (SRB) defeated Roger Federer (SUI) by 4:6, 7:6, 7:6, 5:7 and 6:4

Novak and Roger played against each other for the first time in the Wimbledon final. Roger started the match pretty good but Djokovic's persuasion was outstanding and incomparable. He struggled through the 2nd and 3rd set and all ended in the 5th set where Djokovic won by 6:4 and won his 2nd Wimbledon title in career.

Women's single – Petra Kvitova

Petra Kvitova (CZE) defeated Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) by 6:3, 6:0

Everyone expected to see a tough match, but Petra Kvitova once again showed that she is capable to do everything. This was a pretty easy win for her and the 2nd Wimbledon title now rests in her cabinet.

Men's double – Pospisil/ Sock

V. Pospisil (CAN)/J. Sock (USA) defeated B. Bryan (USA)/M. Bryan (USA) by 7:6, 6:7, 6:4, 3:6, 7:5

The Bryan brothers were the defenders of Wimbledon Men's Doubles Championship and pretty much the main competitor to win this tournament, but at the end we saw a great struggle between these two teams and an outstanding win for the Pospisil/Sock team.

Ladies' double – Vinci/Errani

R. Vinci (ITA)/S. Errani (ITA) defeated K. Mladenovic (FRA)/T.Babos (HUN) by 6:1, 6:3

R. Vinci/S. Errani from Italy came to this championship as 2nd seeded and managed to play a fantastic game in every match. Final match didn't even last long (56 minutes) and they took easy win in the finals and won Wimbledon Ladies' Double Championship.

Mixed double – Zimonjic/Stosur

N. Zimonjic (SRB)/S. Stosur (AUS) defeated M. Mirnyi (BLR)/H. Chan (TPE) by 6:4, 6:2

The 15th seeded team managed to win 14th seeded team in the Wimbledon Mixed Double finals. N. Zimonjic once again showed that he can mesh wonderfully with any partner, and together with Stosur he managed to win the Wimbledon final for the 3rd time in his career and for the first time in mixed double.

Boys’ single – Noah Rubin

Noah Rubin (USA) defeated Stefan Kozlov (USA) 6-4, 4-6, 6-3

It was a surprising victory of unseeded Rubin over 6^th seed and one of the most talented players in the junior’s tour, Stefan Kozlov.

Girls’ singles – Jelena Ostapenko

Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) defeated Kristina Schmiedlova (SVK) 2-6, 6-3, 6-0

Same as in the boys singles final, this was very surprising victory of unseeded Ostapenko, who defeated numerous top players in the road to the title, including 8^th seeded Schmiedlova in the final.

Boys’ double – Luz/Zormann

Orlando Luz (BRA)/Marcelo Zormann (BRA) defeated Stefan Kozlov (USA)/Andrey Rublev (RUS) 6-4, 3-6, 8-6

Stefan Kozlov reached two finals, but he was left without a title. Brazilians played more tournaments together, and they managed to win this tie.

Girls’ double – Grende/Ye

Tami Grende (INA)/Qiu Yu Ye (CHN) defeated Marie Bouzkova (CZE)/Dalma Galfi (HUN) 6-2, 7-6

Both doubles were unseeded, so it was a surprising outcome of this year’s tournament. Girls from the East dominated the whole match, and deserved a trophy.
