VenueCampo de Fútbol de Vallecas (Madrid)
Next Wednesday, 8th of April 2015, the all-powerful Real Madrid will take a short trip to Vallecas to measure forces with their city rivals Rayo Vallecano for round 30 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
The Easter Sunday was definitely a great day for Los Blancos. After their recent poor form and their sour defeat at Camp Nou against the eternal rivals of Barcelona, Real Madrid managed to put themselves together again and hammered a hopeless Granada at Bernabeu by 9-1.
Los Blancos had plenty of ball possession percentage and several chances to score, but the truth is that the first goal only arrived on the 25th minute when Madrid’s new ugly duckling, Gareth Bale, put an end to Granada’s faint resistance. That goal opened the door for one of the most (if not the most) quick hat-trick of the history of football, as the usual suspect, Cristiano Ronaldo, scored three goals in just eight minutes. It was a very heavy punishment for Granada who never found a way to revert such situation and ended up by conceding five more goals in the second-half of the match.
Real Madrid seem to have swept their crisis under the rug with such win, but the real test will certainly be on Wednesday when they face Rayo, a team that tends to complicate their opponents’ lives when playing at home in front of their energetic supporters.
As for Rayo, after a very negative period early this year, Paco Jemez’s boys managed to make amends and returned to wins in great style with an extremely important victory over Villarreal at Vallecas. Rayo have managed to win five of their last seven matches and are already on the 9th position of the table, right behind Athletic Bilbao. The Franjirrojos have won their last four home matches and they will surely give Real Madrid a hard time next Wednesday. They are on an excellent streak of three consecutive wins and last Friday they sealed a very important and difficult win at the Basque Country against Eibar.
Real Madrid are obviously favourites to win next Wednesday’s match, but they will most surely need to work very hard in order to overcome a very organized team such as Rayo.
