Preview

Next Sunday, 17th of May 2015, the current European and World champions will travel to Catalunya to measure forces with Espanyol at Cornella El-Prat for round 37 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.

Will Ronaldo lead Real to win next Sunday?

Last week has been particularly painful for Real Madrid and their supporters as, in just a few days' time, Los Merengues jeopardized their chances of winning La Liga’s title and were eliminated by Juventus from the UEFA Champions League.

Two home matches and two major upsets. Last Saturday, Valencia were not far from granting an historical win at Santiago Bernabéu as they went to break winning by 2-0. Real Madrid managed to react during the second-half and were still able to grant a merciful draw, but the match worked as a prologue for the clash against Juventus last Wednesday. The Vecchia Signora were the executioners of the current European and World champions and brought some dark clouds ahead for Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the helm of Real Madrid.

Los Merengues started their clash against Juve at full steam and if it wasn’t for the Italian super goalie, Gigi Buffon, Real Madrid could have sentenced the match in the first forty-five minutes of the match. Real failed to do such thing and paid a very high price for their lack of efficiency.

The upcoming match against Espanyol will probably be complicated for Los Merengues, especially if we have in mind that they will play under heavy pressure, since if they lose, Barcelona will be crowned the new La Liga’s champions.

As for Espanyol, who are comfortably sitting at the ninth place of the league’s table, the upcoming match will only serve for them to secure their place at the table or to close the gap to Málaga, who currently occupy the seventh place with just one point more than Los Periquitos.

Last weekend, Espanyol travelled to the Basque Country to inflict the newcomers of SD Eibar their twenty-first defeat of the season, knocking them over to the pits of relegation zone at La Liga’s table.

Last season, Real Madrid won both times they travelled to Cornella El-Prat by a narrow margin and if they, at least, want to replicate such win this season, they will certainly be forced to dig very deep in order to break a well organized team such as Espanyol.
