Next Saturday, 9th of May 2015, a slightly fragilized Real Madrid will measure forces with a solid and strong Valencia at the mythical Santiago Bernabéu for round 36 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.

Will Real Madrid be affected by their midweek defeat against Juventus?

After a tremendously complicated win at Sanchez Pizjuan last Saturday night over Sevilla, Real Madrid experienced the sour taste of defeat once again on Tuesday against the Serie A champions, Juventus. Los Merengues lost the Semi-finals first-leg match 2-1 but still have next week’s fixture to make amends. Real Madrid produced some interesting moments at Turin last Tuesday night, especially by the hand of the Colombian wonderboy James Rodriguez and of the usual suspect, Cristiano Ronaldo, however, their talent proved once again not be enough to mitigate their team’s childish defensive mistakes. Carlo Ancelotti placed Sergio Ramos as a sort of anchor man in front of the centre backs duo, in order to obtain some extra stability in their back sector, but his intentions were in vain. One mistake after another offered Juventus the possibility of scoring even more goals, but luckily for Real Madrid, the Italian team’s forward line failed to net in more than two goals.

Next weekend’s match against Valencia, a team that keeps nurturing their hopes of snatching a place in the UEFA Champions League next season, will certainly be another major test for a Real Madrid who has been fairly inconsistent lately.

As for Valencia, Los Che are definitely one of the best teams of the Spanish Liga BBVA this season and no one could certainly have predicted that Nuno Espirito Santo would be able to lead the historical Spanish team back to its glory days, but, in fact, he was.

Last Sunday, Valencia overcame the relegation threatened SD Eibar at Mestalla and took advantage of Sevilla’s defeat to secure the fourth place of the table. After their defeat at Camp Nou, a match during which Los Che showed their brave character and an excellent overall attitude, Valencia are on a three match streak without a single defeat and they will certainly try to extend that run to their Saturday’s clash at Bernabéu.

Regardless of their midweek defeat at Turin, Real Madrid are favourites for the upcoming match against Valencia; nevertheless, they will surely need to dig deep in order to claim the three points.
