Next Saturday, 28th of November 2015, an extremely fragilized Celta de Vigo will measure forces with the newcomers Sporting de Gijón at Los Balaídos for Round 13 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.

After their embarrassing 5-1 home defeat against Valencia CF before the international break, Celta de Vigo weren’t able to get a positive result from the usually intense Derbi gallego against Deportivo de La Coruña last Saturday night. Los Celestes put up their worst performance so far this season and ended up defeated 2-0 by an extremely organized Depor, that exploited Celta’s blatant defensive frailties. A first-half goal from the usual suspect Lucas Pérez and an odd own goal by Jonny Castro cost Celta de Vigo their third defeat of the new season.

Celta had a strong season start with some impressive wins over FC Barcelona and Villarreal, but now they seem to be slowly losing some of that initial stamina, while they expose their enormous defensive problems. Los Celestes conceded 20 goals in 12 matches so far and have one of the worst defensive lines of La Liga.

Next weekend’s fixture against Sporting de Gijón is of the utmost importance for the Galician team, that hasn’t won at Los Balaídos since the middle of September, when they overcame the all-powerful Barça by 4-1. For that important fixture, Celta’s head coach, Eduardo “Toto” Berizzo, will still not be able to rely on the contribution of the Serbian defensive midfielder Nemanja Radoja, who remains sidelined due to injury.

As for Sporting de Gijón, the Asturian team is not going through the best of moments after losing three of their last five league matches.

After an unlucky defeat at Vicente Calderon before the international break, Abelardo Fernández’s men suffered a painful setback at home last Sunday’s morning, when they succumbed at expense of Levante by a staggering 3-0.

The Asturian team is currently in the 15th place of La Liga’s table and have already displayed some very good performances this season.

For Sporting’s travel to Los Balaídos, Abelardo will not be able to rely on the services of the talented Spanish midfielder Sergio Álvarez, who is still sidelined due to injury.
