With a much needed win against Norwich City last weekend, West Bromwich Albion have given themselves some breathing in the relegation battle. With the 3 points won against their fellow relegation battlers, they are level on points with Norwich but have a better goal difference. Also, with a game in hand, they certainly have the advantage in the race to stay in the top flight. However, it is important that they get as many points as possible in the remaining games, and getting at least a point against big sides such as Tottenham Hostspur will definitely do a lot of good in their bid to stay up.
Tottenham had a much needed win of their own over the weekend, though it hasn’t made much of a difference in their standing in the league table. But running out 5-1 winners against relegation threatened Sunderland would certainly give them a lot of confidence in the run-in. With Everton having to face a tough fixture list and Arsenal dropping points like hot potatoes, Spurs still have a chance to realize their dream of making it back into the top 4. If Tim Sherwood can achieve that, in addition to have the best win ratio of a Premier League manager at Spurs, he would definitely have a stronger case to continue.
West Brom haven’t exactly had the greatest win record this season, having gotten all 3 points in 6 of the games they have played, but it is important to note that they have drawn as many as 14 games. It is not so much that they are losing games that put them in this position, but the fact they can’t win, and settle for a point. It could prove to be crucial against a Spurs side that seems to have once again found its mojo. But it is games like these that Sherwood would be expected to win to remain as the Tottenham manager, so it will be an interesting contest.
Injuries
For West Brom, Zoltan Gera and Graham Dorrans are out for the long term, but Chris Brunt, Claudio Yacob and Billy Jones are all expected to return for this weekend. They will have fitness tests to determine whether they are available.
For Tottenham, Michael Dawson and Roberto Soldado join Capoue and Lamela in the long term injury list. But Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker are set to return this weekend.
Head to Head
West Brom and Tottenham have played each other a total of 123 times. Surprisingly West Brom has a better success rate than Tottenham, albeit by just a little. West Brom have won over Tottenham 48 times while Spurs have only managed to win against The Baggies only 46 times.
Form
West Bromwich Albion – WDLWL
Tottenham Hotspur – WLWLL
Prediction – West Brom 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
With both teams coming off the back of important wins, confidence will be high in both camps. Since West Brom have a more desperate need for the points, the chances are that they will at least try to take a point off a top side.
