Next Sunday, 29th of March 2015, a fairly inconsistent Georgia will entertain the current World Champions, Germany, at Boris Paichadze Erovnuli Stadioni in Tbilisi for the Euro 2016 Qualifiers.

Will the Germans bounce back from their midweek upset against Australia?
Will the Germans bounce back from their midweek upset against Australia?

After lifting the World Cup trophy at Brazil last Summer, Germany’s performances have been far from brilliant. Last Wednesday, die Mannschaft didn’t manage to get anything better than a draw from their preparation match with Australia, which took place at a packed Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern. Germany had an apparent control of the match, with plenty more ball possession percentage and more attempts on goal, but in the end, they conceded two goals and showed clear signs of inconsistency, both on their defence and attacking lines. The Germans are currently on the second place of their group with two wins, one draw and one win in four qualifying matches. The current World champions’ inconsistency cost them a painful defeat against their neighbours and all-time rivals of Poland and a sour home draw against Ireland in just four days’ time.

The German National Team’s travel to the Caucasus will certainly not be an easy one, especially if we have in mind that the recent less impressive displays might in a way restrain the team’s overall performance and subsequently the match’s outcome against the Georgians.

As for Georgia, their campaign for the European Championship of 2016 has also been far from brilliant so far. With just three points (that result from a not very impressive win over the fragile newcomers, Gibraltar) in four matches, Georgia are currently second from the bottom and if they lose against Germany on Sunday, they will surely say goodbye to a place in the French tournament next year.

Georgia’s bad campaign has already dictated the departure of Temur Ketsbaia, who left a heavy legacy behind for the new head coach, Kakhaber Tskhadadze. The 46-year old former international defender, who spent some years in Germany back in his playing days, will need to create something very special to recover his players’ motivation levels before the clash against die Mannschaft.

Despite their somewhat negative moment, Germany are clear favourites for next Sunday’s match, although the recent managerial change at the Georgian team might produce a positive effect on the squad, thus enabling them to cause the Germans a major upset.
