Next Saturday, Roma will go head-to-head against Atalanta at the emblematic Stadio Olimpico for round 33 of the Italian Serie A on a match where the home side will look for their seventh win in a row.
Roma did well last weekend at Sardinia against Cagliari where they grabbed an important 3-1 win during a usually complicated trip to Stadio Sant’Elia. Mattia Destro, who recently came back from an injury, netted in a fantastic hat-trick, while the former Chilean international Mauricio Pinilla scored for the islanders.
Roma are enjoying a fantastic moment at Serie A with six wins in a row and sixteen goals scored on those respective matches. Rudi Garcia have brought a new life to the Lupi this season and he managed to restore the supporters’ hopes in the team.
The clash against Atalanta will certainly not be an easy match for Roma. The team from Bergamo has managed to obtain some important wins away from home this season, against Lazio and Inter Milan for example, and they looking to cause a major setback to the Lupi next Saturday.
For Atalanta’s clash, Rudi Garcia will not be able to count on the last week’s hat-trick hero Mattia Destro, who is suspended, and on Mehdi Benatia, Balzaretti, and Strootman, all of them sidelined due to injury. The French head coach is not yet 100% certain if he will also be able to count on the team’s legendary captain Francesco Totti, who is recovering from a minor injury.
As for the Bergamo’s team, next match will also be important if they want to secure a place at the first half of the table. AC Milan and Torino are only one point behind them and a slip-up at Stadio Olimpico could mean the loss of their place at the first half of the table.
Last weekend, Atalanta was surprised at home by a relegation threatened Sassuolo that put an end to a fantastic six consecutive wins streak from the Bergamo team.
The 51-year old Italian manager Stefano Colantuono has been doing a fantastic job at Atalanta this season and he is certainly looking at his team’s next match as a good opportunity to provide extra motivation to his players in order for them to impose the third defeat of the season to Roma.
For the next clash against Roma, Stefano Colantuono will not be able to count on the Italian defender Guglielmo Stendardo, who is suspended, and it is also not likely that he will be able to count on the defender Davide Brivio and the midfielder Riccardo Cazzola since both of them are not yet fully recovered from their recent injuries.
When both team’s met at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia last November, the teams divided the points after a 1-1 draw with goals from Davide Brivio for the home side and Kevin Strootman for the visitors.
