Simona Halep – Poetry in Motion

Simona Halep’s remarkable rise to the top in 2014 is testimony to her training, dedication, skill and newfound confidence. Whatever she is eating, we should all get on board.

In 2012, Simona was the 47^th ranked player on the ATP circuit. Like so many tennis professionals, her idols are Justine Henin and the one and only Roger Federer. Unlike Henin, Simona’s favorite shot is her serve. Halep’s ability to hold and break has marked her success in 2014 and has set her apart from other would-be number ones.

An aggressive baseliner, Halep is fleet afoot and amazingly adept at covering the full court with precise lateral movements. Prior to this year, her best finish in a Grand Slam event was her Round of 16 loss at last year’s US Open. Look for more from Simona this time around. The Romanian is one player, the others do not want to play. She is a handful, confident and fluid.

Fluent in English and Romanian, Simona like all the surfaces. As the probable number three seed at Flushing Meadows,  the crowd will rally to her. Fun and fun-loving with just the right amount of intensity, Halep enjoys music, movies and handball. Her favorite food is pasta. Paris is her favorite city but if she wins in New York, watch out. Like many Romanians, clay is her favorite surface but she scored well on the speedy grass at Wimbledon.

It may be too early to place a wager but the smart money will not overlook Simona Halep this year at Flushing Meadows. She will be in the hunt for sure.
