With Novak Djokovic established the dominant favorite to defeat Richard Gasquet in one semifinal match, the interest in the other semifinal pitting the second seed against the third is intense. With two highly trained, fit and peaked athletes, who knows what might turn the tide.
Andy Murray (20) vs. Roger Federer (3)
In his quarterfinal match, Roger Federer finally lost his serve after 116 consecutive service game victories. That remarkable stat may be the key to this match. Murray may be the best returner in the Men’s game and his stellar play of late seems to have pointed him to this battle.
The two have played 23 times with Federer having won 12 matches. Can Murray even in his career record against this 17-time Grand Slam champion and seven-time Wimbledon champ. Both players understand the intricacies of grass court play. Murray seems the more mobile player but Federer’s game is perfectly suited for this surface.
And, then there’s the crowd. The Scot will have the lion’s share of the crowd support but the Swiss is uncommonly popular here. There will be plenty of crowd enthusiasm for both players although Murray will be favored on Henman’s Hill.
We look for Murray to derail the three seed. The first set is important. Regardless of who wins, this will not go five sets. Look for the Scot to win in four.
