Ladies Finals – 07-11-15
Womens tennis has become more balanced in recent years, except for the dominance of the world’s best player, who happens to be the greatest female tennis player in history. Unless Spain’s 21-year old wondergirl, Garbine Muguruza, can create a monumental upset, Serena will claim her seventh Wimbledon title and have worked her way through her most challenging draw in years.
Serena Williams (1) vs. Garbine Muguruza (20)
Serena Williams will silence her critics on Saturday. Count on it. The rise of Garbine Muguruza has been impressive. She has quickly asserted herself a rising force and star in a game of several promising up-and-comers. Muguruza makes no bones about her play; she is big server with a power game. There will be no style change for this match.
These two have met three times n the past. Serena has won twice. You may recall that Garbine took Serena out of the 2014 French Open (6-2, 6-2). That was an eye opener! The kid has game and guts and she still believes! That may prove to be her biggest attribute.
While Serena has had a tough draw, the Spaniard has enjoyed a fairly relaxed march to the finals. She showed signs of nerves against Radwanska in the semis but her team will have her as ready as she can be for the finals, which she will lose.
But, we think she will win a set. She hits as hard as Azarenka and serves a little better. Plus, she will not be intimidated, although the setting will take a toll. We expect the crowd to rally on her behalf. One of the problems for Sharapova and Azarenka is that they do not think they should win. Muguruza does not buy into that. She knows she can win. That alone makes this the most interesting match in Serena’s Wimbledon. Good luck!
