Team Ireland surprised West Indies by defeating them in their opening encounter by a margin of four wickets. The Windies were sent into bat and they managed to score enough runs by posting 7-304 on board in the stipulated 50 overs. Ireland achieved the target by hammering 307 for the loss of six wickets with 25 balls still left in the game. United Arab Emirates dispatched 285 runs after losing seven wickets in 50 overs against Zimbabwe who went past that by powering 6-286 with two overs to spare. Ireland will look forward to maintain their winning spree whereas U.A.E will do their best to win and grab two points.
Paul Stirling was the supreme batsman of Ireland, missed his ton by eight runs vs. West Indies, Ed Joyce, Niall O’Brien and William Porterfield contributed 84, 79 and 23 runs as Kevin O’Brien is a fine all-rounder. George Dockrell was the top wicket taker with three while John Mooney, Max Sorensen and Andy McBrien are supporting him well.
Shaiman Anwar, Khurram Khan, Krishna Chandran and Swapnil Patil were the main scorers for U.A.E against Zimbabwe as they chipped in with 67, 45, 34 and 32 runs. Amjad Ali and Andri Berenger can get them a rising start while opening the innings whereas their bowling department is being looked after by Mohammad Naveed, Amjad Javed, Nasir Aziz, Mohammad Tauqir and Krishna Chandran.
