The touring West Indies took a rising start in the shortest versions of the game while winning the opening T20 against South Africa by four wickets. The home side managed 165 runs for the loss of four wickets in the assigned 20 overs and the visitors reached the target by smashing 6-168 with four balls to spare. The Caribbeans are leading the three match series at 1-0 and will be looking forward to grab it by clinching the second one whereas the Proteas will fight hard to come back and level it.
Rilee Rossouw was the supreme batsman of South Africa with unbeaten 51, Faf du Plessis and David Miller scored 38, 24 while Reeza Hendricks, Morne van Wyk and Farhaan Behardien can play brisk knocks. Imran Tahir was the top wicket taker with three, Wayne Parnell got two and they expect more from Kyle Abbott, David Wiese and Kagiso Rabada.
Chris Gayle maintained his reputation as the most dangerous batsman in the game as he powered 77 off 44 mere balls with 8 giant sixes and 5 fours. Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Smith contributed useful 41 and 20 runs. Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Denesh Ramdin are handy batsmen while Andre Russell and Darren Sammy are their recognised all-rounders. Sheldon Cottrel, Jason Holder and Ashley Nurse gave away lots of runs in the first game but they must come out with economical bowling.
Sunday, January 11, 2015 @ 13:00 GMT, 15:00 local at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.
Prediction of thunderstorm and rain with the temperatures around 15-27ᵒC.
The Proteas opted to bat in the first game and the Windies can prefer to chase after winning the toss.
The seaming and bouncy track along with the cover of clouds will definitely favour the bowlers as compared to the batsmen.
