The Lankan Lions got a stick at their back when the Englishmen grabbed the fifth One Day International by a clear margin of five wickets. The match was rolled into the reserve day because of the disturbance from weather and the fresh look tourists availed the opportunity well led by an unbeaten ton from Joe Root. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 239 runs in 49 overs on December 10, 2014 and England achieved the target by powering 5-240 in 49.1 overs. The Islanders are ruling the seven match series at 3-2 and both sides still have a chance to win it.
Kumar Sangakkara continued with his brilliant form by scoring 91 runs in the fifth game, Angelo Mathews and Tillakaratne Dilshan scored 40 and 35. Mahela Jayawardene and Lahiru Thirimanne are among runs while Ajantha Mendis, Dilshan, Rangana Herath and Thisara Perera are their key bowlers.
Joe Root hammered an unbeaten match winning innings of 104 runs in the previous match and James Taylor contributed 68. Moeen Ali, Ravi Bopara and Jos Buttler are other notable batsmen while Alastair Cook and Eoin Morgan are struggling with the bat. Chris Woakes broke the back of the rival batting by grasping 6 wickets, Chris Jordan held two whereas James Tredwell, Moeen Ali and Steven Finn are assisting them nicely.
