Next Sunday, 23th of November 2014, a highly fragilized Crystal Palace will take on an underachieving Liverpool side at Selhurst Park for round 12 of the English Premier League, on a match of the utmost importance for both teams given their recent poor record.
Liverpool have been having a season to forget so far. The Reds are currently on the 11th place of the EPL table with some mere 14 points from 11 matches. Two weeks ago, Brendan Rodgers conceded his fifth defeat of the season by losing to José Mourinho’s Chelsea at Anfield Road, on a match they even managed to get an early lead. The Reds had more ball possession throughout the match but that was not enough to surpass a fairly more organized and motivated opponent.
Liverpool are on a very poor run of results, with three consecutive defeats both on domestic and international clashes and Brendan Rodgers does not seem able to find a solution to the huge role of problems the team is currently facing. Their poor goal tally, along with their somewhat leaky defence line, have completely deviated the team from the title challenge already at this stage of the season, since the league leaders, Chelsea, are already 15 points ahead of them.
The Reds’ next match at Selhurst Park is a good opportunity for them to finally snatch the three points after their recent upsets, but playing against a team that is desperate for wins might also cause them some problems.
For that particular match, Brendan Rodgers will still not be able to rely on the contribution of Sturridge, Suso and Flanagan, all sidelined due to injury.
As for Crystal Palace, the Eagles are probably going through their worst moment of the season with four defeats from their last five matches and that particularly poor run of results is certainly causing some sleeping problems to Neil Warnock and his staff.
Two weeks ago, Crystal Palace failed to take something positive from their trip to Old Trafford, as they conceded their sixth defeat of the season by losing 1-0 to Manchester United. The upcoming match against Liverpool will be of major importance for the Eagles because, if they lose, they will probably drop down to relegation zone.
Despite both sides' complicated moment, Liverpool are favourites to win next Sunday’s match, but if we look at what the Reds have been doing so far this season, the clash's outcome is unpredictable.
