Next Sunday, 31th August 2014, Arsenal will travel to the King Power Stadium to measure forces with Leicester on what will be the last match of the third round of the English Premier League.
Alexis Suárez scored his first goal for Arsenal this week against Besiktas and granted the Gunners a place at the UEFA Champions League group stage on a match where they were forced to “survive” all the mighty intents from the Turkish side as they desperately looked for an equalizer against a ten man London team.
Arsenal had two very intense matches in the last seven days and that might have caused some damages to the team. After scoring two late goals at Goodison Park last weekend, which granted them an unlikely draw, the Gunners were forced to apply some extra elbow grease to overcome a strong and very organized Besiktas side that went to London looking for a win.
With the confirmation of Giroud’s long term injury, Wenger was and will be forced to reinvent his game style for the matches to come as, despite all rumours, there still isn’t any new arrival to compensate for the French forward’s absence.
For next Sunday’s match against Leicester, Arsene Wenger will not be able to count on the contribution of Gibbs, Ospina, Arteta, Walcott and Giroud, all of them sidelined due to injury.
As for Leicester, the Foxes left a very positive image of themselves when they visited London last weekend to play against Chelsea. Nigel Pearson’s boys controlled the match, to a certain extent, during the first-half and managed to create some dangerous situations to Courtois’ net. Their resistance, however, fell to the ground during the second-half as Chelsea returned from the break fairly more dangerous and focused.
Despite their good display last weekend, Leicester were surprised at home by a humble Shrewsbury side for a Capital One Cup match last Tuesday and such defeat might cause some unrest among the players when they face Arsenal next Sunday.
For the match against the Gunners, Nigel Pearson is not yet certain if he will be able to count on the contribution from Drinkwater, Upson and James, who are still recovering from recent injuries.
The last time both sides met at the King Power Stadium was back in 2003 and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Although the circumstances are fairly different know, Arsenal remain favourite for the next Sunday’s clash but they need to be alert as the fatigue from their recent intense matches might hit them.
