Next Sunday, 26th of June 2016, a super motivated Hungary will measure forces with a somewhat inconsistent Belgium at Stadium of Toulouse for the Euro 2016 Round of 16.
Hungary are definitely one of the most pleasant surprises of the tournament so far and they proved just that in the match against Portugal last time out. The Magyars showed that they are far from being pushovers and forced Cristiano Ronaldo and his companions to dig very deep in order to claw the point that allowed them to walk through into the next stage of the tournament. With Kadar, Kleinheisler and Nagy on the bench, Hungary opened the score by former West Brom and Fulham attacking midfielder Zoltan Gera, who took advantage from a poor rebound by the Portuguese defence line, in order to fire a superb scorcher from outside the box that gave no chance to the opponent’s goalkeeper, Rui Patricio.
The team’s captain Balazs Dzsudzsak netted Hungary’s other two goals after the break on a spectacular and intense match that ended up with a 3-3 draw.
Hungary’s head coach Bernd Storck completely redesigned this team after replacing Pal Dardai almost one year ago. The 53-year old German manager and his wingman, former German international Andreas Möller, have taken Hungary one step forward after the former European powerhouse had failed to participate in any major European Championship since 1972.
For the predictably complicated match against Belgium next Sunday, Bernd Storck will probably not be able to rely on the services of Attila Fiola and Mihaly Korhut, who are still recovering from recent injuries. Daniel Bode, on the other hand, is fully recovered from injury and took part in last Friday’s training session.
As for Belgium, after being defeated by Italy in their opening match of the tournament, Les Diables Rouges seem to be already back on tracks. A solid 3-0 win over Republic Ireland, thanks to a superb second-half performance and a narrow 1-0 against Sweden last time out, have granted Belgium a place in the Round of 16 of the tournament, where they will now be up against a well organized Hungarian side that will surely give them a hard day on the job next Sunday.
Belgium’s boss Marc Wilmots has already warned his players about the danger that the Magyar team currently represents and has warned them against any potential complacency.
