Next Wednesday, 6th of July 2016, the unpredictable Portuguese team will measure forces with a mighty Wales at Stade de Lyon for the Euro 2016 first Semi-finals match.
It is fair to say that Ricardo Quaresma has probably been the talisman for the Portuguese team so far this tournament. After scoring the winning goal in extra-time against Croatia in the Round 16, the flamboyant winger netted the decisive penalty kick against Poland last time out and booked his team a place in tournament Semi-finals.
Portugal started their match against the Polish off on the left foot after Robert Lewandowski’s goal on minute 2’. The Portuguese side experienced several problems to deal with their opponents commitment, but after Renato Sanches’ equalizer on minute 33’, they have managed to take the lead of the match. Nevertheless, Fernando Santos’ men pulled off another lacklustre performance that in the end proved to be enough to claw a place in Euro 2016 Semi-finals.
For the upcoming match against Wales, the Portuguese head coach will not be able to rely on the services of Sporting CP’s defensive midfielder William Carvalho, who is currently suspended after picking up a yellow card last time out.
As for Wales, after their fantastic performance during the group stage matches, they managed to overcome Belgium, who were firm favourites to win the match last time out. Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and their companions pulled off another consistent and mighty performance to annihilate a Belgian side that took the match for granted very early on and later failed to cope with the Welsh bravery and superior organization on the pitch.
Arsenal’s midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who is currently one of the best players in the tournament and has a pivotal role in his team’s attacking movements, will miss next Wednesday’s fixture against Portugal after picking up another yellow card last time out. Spurs’ defender Ben Davies will also miss out there due to suspension.
Chris Coleman has scored at least a goal in every single match they have participated in so far and he is certainly hoping to continue scoring against Portugal, who sometimes tend to make some childish mistakes back in defence.
