Next Monday, 18th of May 2015, a Fiorentina hurting in their pride will measure forces with a bankrupt and already relegated Parma at Artemio Franchi for round 36 of Serie A.

It used to be a match between two major powerhouses of Italian football, but not anymore. The 1996-97 Serie A runners-up had a nightmarish season: unpaid footballers, a huge financial crisis and several points deducted during the campaign served to condemn Parma to the depths of Serie B for the upcoming season.

Fiorentina had another week to forget as they were once again trashed by Unai Emery’s super Sevilla at home last Thursday. After losing 3-0 at Sanchez Pizjuan, the Viola weren’t able to overcome the well organized Spanish team and were kicked out of the UEFA Europa Cup on the semi-finals stage of the tournament.

Currently on the 5th place of Serie A table, Fiorentina had some top quality moments this season, although they have still not granted European football for the upcoming campaign. After being defeated at Andalusia, the Viola snatched a narrow 3-2 win at Empoli but again met the sour taste of defeat a few days later on the second-leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals at Artemio Franchi.

Vincenzo Montella has been doing a quality job with the Viola, although, if by any reason he fails to grant European football next season, he will probably leave Fiorentina in the Summer.

As for Parma, it is hard to put into words how bad the current season has been for the Crociati. Parma are bankrupt and they face an uncertain future as they are still in risk of dropping several tiers on the Italian football pyramid.

After two consecutive heavy defeats, Parma snatched an impressive home draw against Napoli, who also had a week to forget by the way, as they were eliminated by Dnipro on the other match for the semi-finals stage of the UEFA Europa League.

Regardless of all the problems they have been faced with this season, Parma fought bravely with what they had at their disposal and they were a true example of humbleness for the rest of Serie A teams.
