Next Sunday, 31st of May 2015, a super inconsistent Napoli will measure forces with a SS Lazio hurting in their pride at the emblematic Stadio San Paolo for the last round of the Italian Serie A.

With nothing much to play for at Serie A this season, next Sunday’s match between Napoli and SS Lazio will certainly be a fantastic way to end the tournament, with both teams separated in the table by just three points and with the Campania team still hoping to steal the spot at the Champions League qualifying round from the Aquille.

Last round Lazio succumbed at the hands of their all-time rivals AS Roma by 2-1 and let the opportunity of snatching the second place of the league slip through their fingers. A goal from the Argentinean wonderboy Juan Iturbe and another one from Yanga-Mbiwa allowed the Lupi to secure the second place of the table at the expenses of a Lazio team that appears to be completely fatigued. Lazio managed to get back in the game on the 81st minute thanks to a goal from Djordjevic but they allowed AS Roma’s French centre back to sentence the match just a few minutes later.

Lazio’s visit to Napoli does not come at the best of times for Stefano Pioli’s team, especially after two incredible painful defeats, first against Juventus at Coppa Italia’s final and last Monday against their neighbours AS Roma. Nevertheless, the last time Lazio visited Stadio San Paolo two months ago, the Aquille won the match by a narrow but in a way well-deserved 1-0 thanks to a goal from Lulic.

As for Napoli, the Italian historical team is also not having the best of times and their defeat at Kyiv against Dnipro proved to be an huge blow to the team’s confidence levels. In addition to that, the hypothetical departure of Rafa Benitez at the end of the season is probably also increasing anxiety levels in the team and among the supporters since they would certainly be forced to start from scratch next term.

Last weekend, Napoli didn’t manage to survive Juventus’ sledgehammer that keeps on smashing the opponents one by one as the seasons come to an end. Napoli put up a pleasant performance and have even achieved more shots on goal; however, they failed to overcome the all-powerful Italian champions.
