Next Saturday, 23rd of May 2015, Eduardo Berizzo’s highly synchronized Celta de Vigo will entertain Espanyol at Los Balaídos for the last round of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
With nothing much to play for, Celta de Vigo keep believing that they can reach the 8th place of the table if they overcome Espanyol next weekend. The Galician team is currently on the 11th place of La Liga’s table with 48 points from 37 matches and a win against the Catalan team might allow them to climb some places and, if nothing more, at least to overcome their next Saturday’s rivals in the final league standings.
Last weekend, Celta put a very good performance at Mestalla against Nuno Espirito Santo’s super Valencia, thus collecting a deserved draw from that match. Los Celestes proved once again that they are not pushovers and showed the reason why some pundits claim that they are one of the most impressive teams of La Liga this season. Celta had even scored first thanks to a quality header from Pablo Hernandez after a Nolito’s corner kick.
Eduardo Berizzo is doing a fantastic work with Los Celestes and he is catapulting the team to a completely new level as he even managed to improve what Luis Enrique had started last season.
Celta are on a very decent streak of four matches without a single defeat and they will certainly do everything within their reach to seal the season with a home win in order to thank their enthusiastic fans for their frantic support all over the campaign.
As for Espanyol, the Catalan team can still reach Athletic Bilbao on the seventh place of the table, but in order for that to happen, they need to win next Saturday’s match at Los Balaídos and wait for their direct opponents to lose their respective matches.
Espanyol had an overall good season, especially if we have in mind the limited number of options that their manager, Sergio Gonzalez, had at his disposal. The former Spanish international did an excellent job with Espanyol after spending one season and half at helm of the Blanquiazules reserves’ team.
