Australia – The Kangaroos were placed in Group A where they played six matches, won four, lost two and attained 9 points at a net run rate of +1.123. They were beaten by the hosts, India, in the Quarter – final by five wickets on March 24, 2011 at Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad.
England – They were part of Group B, took part in six games, triumphed in three, surrendered even and achieved seven points at a net run rate of +0.072. The Englishmen were outplayed in the Quarter - final by Sri Lanka with a huge difference of 10 wickets at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, on March 26, 2011.
Both teams took part in the recently concluded Carlton Mid One-Day International Tri-Series which included India as well who could not win any game. Australia and England made their way to the final and the former grabbed the important match by 112 runs on February 1, 2015, in Perth. The arch rivals are part of Pool A and will start their ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 campaign while playing their first match with quite a few hidden plans.
Steven Smith, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch were the main scorers in the previous series while Michael Clarke, George Bailey will support them in the middle order. Shane Watson James Faulkner and Mitchell Marsh are fine all-rounders and their lethal bowling attack comprises Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Johnson, Josh Hazlewood and Xavier Doherty.
Ian Bell. Joe Root, James Taylor, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler impressed in the Tri-series with their willows whereas Gary Balance and Alex Hales will strengthen their batting. Ravi Bopara, Moeen Ali and Stuart Broad are recognised all-rounders while James Anderson, Steven Finn, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan and James Tredwell will form a strong bowling unit.
