Next Saturday, Borussia Dortmund will entertain Hoffenheim at the emblematic Westfalenstadion for round 33 of the Bundesliga for a match during which the home side can finally grant their position at the second place of the table and finally concentrate on the DFB Pokal final against Bayern Munich in the middle of next month.
Borussia Dortmund’s winning streak was interrupted last weekend after their trip travel to Bay Arena. Der BVB didn’t manage to defeat a Bayer Leverkusen side that seemed to have been reborn from the ashes and conceded a 2-2 draw on what was a thrilling match with a frantic first half, during which all four goals were scored. Dortmund’s German forward Marco Reus put up another vintage performance testing Leverkusen’s goalie Bernd Leno for several times before scoring from the penalty spot in the end of the first half.
For next Saturday’s clash Hoffenheim, the irreverent Jürgen Klopp still has a long list of injured players and he will probably not be able to count on Durm, Alomerovic, Schmelzer, Subotic, Gundogan, Blaszczykowski, and Bender, all of them sidelined due to injury.
Their opponents, Hoffenheim, are going through a positive moment at Bundesliga after having what one may call a very inconsistent season. Last weekend, Markus Gisdol’s side didn’t manage to get anything better than a goalless draw at home against Eintracht Frankfurt and extended to two the amount of matches without a win, after having been defeated against Werder Bremen two weeks ago. Being at the 9th place of the table and without any chances of reaching Borussia M’gladbach (who are currently at the seventh position), Hoffenheim cannot allow any more slip ups during the two remaining matches of the season or they risk droppping several places.
For next weekend’s match against Dortmund, Hoffenheim’s head coach Markus Gisdol will not be able to count on Anthony Modest, who is suspended, on the midfielders Tobias Strobl and Boris Vukcevic and on the German forward Sven Schipplock, all sidelined due to injury.
When both sides met at Rhein-Neckar-Arena back in December, the match ended in 2-2 draw with goals from Sven Schipplock and Kevin Volland for the hosts and Aubameyang and Piszczek for the visitors. On next Saturday’s match at Westfalenstadion, Dortmund will certainly want to avenge their first match result and to continue to extend the good moment they are currently enjoying at the Bundesliga against an inconsistent Hoffenheim side that might not have what is necessary to cause an upset to the home side.
