Next Sunday, 9th of November 2014, an enigmatic Borussia Dortmund will measure forces with a super confident Borussia Moenchengladbach at the Westfalenstadion for round 11 of the Bundesliga, on a match that the home side desperately needs to win, first of all to escape the relegation zone and secondly to put an abrupt end to their losing streak on the German league.

Is this the end of the line for Klopp at Dortmund?
Is this the end of the line for Klopp at Dortmund?

It is getting hard to describe how surreal Dortmund’s campaign has been at Bundesliga so far. The former European champions are second from bottom, with the same miserable seven points of Werder Bremen, who are currently at the last place of the table.

Dortmund were defeated once again last weekend, this time by the current German champions, Bayern Munich, thus suffering their seventh defeat of the season in just ten matches. Dortmund has even managed to open the score, thanks to a Marco Reus’ effort on the 31st minute of the match, but they were unable to cope with the pressure of Pepe Guardiola’s boys, especially during the last twenty minutes of the match, where they conceded two goals.

On the other hand, Dortmund’s campaign at the UEFA Champions League has been a completely different story, with the team winning all the matches they have played so far. Der BVB have scored some impressive 13 goals in four matches and conceded only one in their current UCL campaign and it is somehow hard to compare that particular team with the one that has already allowed 17 goals in 10 Bundesliga matches this season. Last Wednesday’s night, Dortmund smashed Galatasaray at the Westfalenstadion by 4-1 and cemented their position at the top of their group, with five points lead over Arsenal, who currently occupy the second place of the table.

As for Borussia Moenchengladbach, this season has been particularly impressive as they have not yet been defeated so far. Ten matches without defeats is truly remarkable, as was remarkable their last weekend win over Hoffenheim, who were also enjoying a particular good moment this season. The Lucien Favre’s boys are currently at the third place of the table with the same points of Wolfsburg and just four points behind the league leaders, Bayern Munich.

Given both sides’ current moment, one must consider Borussia Moenchengladbach as favourites for next Sunday’s clash, although we need to have in mind how inconsistent Dortmund have been so far, thus we cannot exclude them from making a strong comeback already in the upcoming match and clinch the three points.
