Next Monday, 11th of May 2015, a highly motivated Arsenal will entertain a Swansea that still nurtures some hopes of granting European football next season at Emirates Stadium for round 36 of the English Premier League.
Arsenal’s home defeat against AS Monaco for the UEFA Champions League back in February truly worked as an eye-opener for the team that hasn’t lost a single match since that sour and compromising defeat. The Gunners’ excellent winning streak has allowed them to climb several places in the league table and now they only need to rely on themselves to end the competition as runner-ups, right behind the new champions Chelsea.
Last Monday, Arsenal put an end to Hull’s winning row by defeating them 3-1 at the KC Stadium thanks to another vintage performance from Alexis Sanchez. The versatile Chilean winger netted in the first from a free-kick and got the third just before the break after a superb assist from Aaron Ramsey. The former Barcelona’s player has been of the utmost importance at Arsene Wenger’s team this season as he scored a total of 16 goals at the English Premier League so far, two more than the team’s centre forward, Olivier Giroud.
The upcoming match against the Swans will certainly not be easy, especially if we have in mind what happened in the last two occasions both sides measured forces. Last season the Welsh team snatched an unexpected 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium and back in November Arsenal succumbed during their travel to the Liberty Stadium.
As for Swansea, regardless of some periods of blatant inconsistency, they have been doing an overall good campaign at the English Premier League so far this campaign as they still nurture some faint hopes of granting European football for the season to come.
The Swans come from two consecutive wins against Newcastle and Stoke City and they will certainly try to at least replicate their last season’s good result at the Emirates next Monday.
Swansea lost their Portuguese forward Nelson Oliveira for the rest of the season due to injury, something that will force Garry Monk to produce some changes in his starting lineup next Monday.
Regardless of Swansea’s recent good moment, they probably don’t have what is necessary to overcome an incredibly motivated Arsenal at the Emirates next Monday, thus the Gunners are firm favourites to win the match.
