Next Friday, 17th of June 2016, current European champions Spain will measure forces with Turkey at Stade de Nice in the capital of Alpes Maritimes for their second match in Group D.
Spain started the European Championship off on the right foot, defeating the Czech Republic with a goal by Gerard Pique in the dying moments of the match. It wasn’t by any means an easy match for the current European champions, who struggled to unmount the opponents tight defensive bloc. Czech Republic’s goalkeeper, Petr Cech, also had a fair share of guilt in the process after producing a hand full of quality stops that delayed the Spanish goal.
Vicente Del Bosque brought in Athletic Bilbao experienced forward Aritz Aduriz for Alvaro Morata’s place on minute 62’ and in a way increased the aerial power in the Czech Republic’s box, forcing the opponents to implement different marking positioning. Spain are far from being the top team that won the European Championship back 2012, but are, nevertheless a strong team and a solid contender to win the tournament. The upcoming match against Turkey could turn out to be a complicated match for Spain, since the Turks are forced to win if they want to keep dreaming with a place at the next stage of the tournament.
For that match, Vicente del Bosque will apparently have all his players at disposal, since there aren’t currently any names on Spain’s injury list.
As for Turkey, they have put up a lacklustre performance against Croatia last time and ended up losing the match. Fatih Terim’s men were quite ineffective up front and not even the team’s most impressive players, such as Arda Turan and Hakan Calhanoglu, were able to make a good impression.
Turkey struggled to deal with Croatia's quick and short passing football and the same thing will certainly happen again when they meet Spain next Friday. Fatih Terim wasn’t happy with his players’ overall performance against the Balkans’ team and needs now to rally the troops if he wants to take something positive from the match against Spain.
For that particular match, Fatih Terim will not be able to rely on the services of Göhkan Töre, who is currently suspended. Mehmet Topal and Göhkan Gonul, who are still recovering from injury, are doubts out there.
