Next Friday, 4th of September 2015, the current World Champions Germany will measure forces with their neighbours of Poland at Frankfurt Stadion for the 2016 UEFA European Championship Qualifying Round.
A win against the Polish next Friday will offer the Germans the first place of Group D, but they will certainly need to dig very deep in order to achieve that. The all-powerful Mannschaft didn’t have the best of times during their travel to Warsaw back in October 2014 and succumbed at the hands of a mighty and extremely well-organized Polish team with goals from Milik and Mila.
It is fair to claim that Germany have shown some signs of inconsistency after winning the World Cup in Brazil last year and some of their results have left something to be desired. A home defeat against the USA for a friendly match almost three months ago and a draw with Ireland right after the Warsaw defeat are the real proof that the Germans are definitely far from what they have shown during the Brazilian tournament one year ago.
The Germans have only lost twice to Poland in the twenty meetings both sides have disputed throughout the times and for that reason they have to be considered slight favourites for the upcoming match next Friday. Germany’s recent home record in major tournaments’ qualifiers is quite impressive and the last time they were defeated was almost eight years ago at the expenses of their neighbours, the Czech Republic.
As for Poland, their European Championship qualifying has been particularly impressive so far. The Polish remain unbeaten after six matches and have proven to be extremely prolific when it comes to scoring goals, as they have already netted in 20 during those matches. Their defence line has also shown great signs of solidity as they have only conceded three goals in six matches so far.
Their manager, Adam Nawalka, is doing a fantastic job with the Polish team as he managed to overcome a somewhat slow start back in 2013 to build a cohese and extremely mechanized team in recent times. Talented footballers such as Lewandowski, Milik and Krychowiak are allowing Poland to revive their good old days and are surely the foundations of a bright future in the World of football for this Eastern European country.
