Next Saturday, 2nd of May 2015, the current Italian champions, Juventus, will travel to Genoa to measure forces with Sampdoria at Luigi Ferraris for round 34 of the Serie A, for what will certainly be the most exciting match of the weekend in Italy.
The league leaders, Juventus, lost two of their four last Serie A matches without, however, having compromised both their hegemony and dominance over Italian football these days. After a surprising defeat at the hands of a brave Parma earlier this month, Juve fell again last weekend during their local derby against Torino. Il Toro pulled rank and showed their neighbours that they are no pushovers by inflicting them their third defeat of the season. Juve have, however, make amends after overcoming Fiorentina by 3-2 on an exciting match in the middle of the week.
Juventus, who have recently granted a place on the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, are on the verge of being coronated Italian champions once again. The Vecchia Signora’s dominance in Italian football continued even after the departure of Antonio Conte, the “architecture” of the new Juventus, last Summer. Their new boss, Massimiliano Allegri, is also doing a great job and, at the same time, he has managed to waive off the pundits' criticism from early this season.
Juve’s upcoming match next Saturday will definitely be far from easy as they will face one of the most impressive teams of the present season, who are, nevertheless, not going through a very positive moment.
As for Sampdoria, the upcoming home match against Juventus is of vital importance, especially if they want to secure the 5th place of the Serie A table, which would grant them European football next season. Sinisa Mihajlovic’s team are not going through a very impressive streak, as they've failed to win any of their last five matches. Last Sunday, Samp sucumbed at the hands of Napoli at San Paolo, a match during which they even managed to open the score on minute 12’. Things got worse for them after a compromising home draw with Verona on Wednesday.
The Serbian manager is, nevertheless. doing a fantastic job at the helm of Sampdoria and has not yet been defeated by Juve this season, since they have managed to snatch a 1-1 draw on their visit to Turin last December.
Despite losing their last weekend’s local derby against Torino, Juventus are favourites to win the upcoming match against a Sampdoria team that could be able take something positive from such clash if they managed to replicate some of the top quality displays they have already put up this season.
