Next Saturday, Getafe will measure forces with Málaga at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez in Madrid for round 35 of Liga BBVA in a match of crucial importance for the home side if they want to keep their hopes of playing at La Liga next season intact.

Cosmin Contra
Will Cosmin Contra find a magical solution to save Getafe from relegation this season?

Getafe’s head coach, Cosmin Contra, will need to create something very special in order to motivate his players for the remaining matches of the season. After a devastating campaign for the side from the outskirts of Madrid, the Romanian manager (who only arrived at the club nearly one month ago) has probably the toughest challenge of his young managerial career ahead of him: keeping Getafe at the Spanish football top tier.

Last weekend, Getafe didn’t manage to grab anything better than a draw against Levante, on a match where the Los Azulones were far more dangerous than their opponents during the first half but then lost that dominance after their centre back Alexis was sent off in the second half. Next match against Málaga will certainly be a complicated one, even though the Andalusian side has already almost granted a place at La Liga next season, escaping the relegation zone thanks to three wins over the last four matches.

For next Saturday’s match against Málaga, Contra will probably still not be able to count on the team’s captain Jaime Gavilán, the Spanish defender Sergio Escudero and Miguel Angel Moya, all absent due to injury, while Alexis will surely miss the match due to suspension.

As for Málaga, the Andalusian side are currently on a very positive mood after last Monday’s win over Villarreal. Bernd Schuster’s boys put up a quality performance against the Yellow Submarine and “sunk” them easily on a match they lost Amrabat due to a red card, after the Moroccan player told he referee that he probably needed glasses.

Málaga are now more comfortable on the table: nine points above the relegation line and with just four matches until the end of the season.

For the match against Getafe, the German manager will not be able to count on Amrabat, due to suspension, and he is not yet certain if he will be able to count on the Spanish defender Sergio Sánchez and on the Argentinean defensive midfielder Fernando Tissone, both injured.

When both sides met at La Rosaleda last December, the home side won 1-0 thanks to a goal from the Paraguayan striker Roque Santa-Cruz, on what was a very close match.
